“It is like a man going on a journey….” (Mark 13:34)
One of my favorite TV shows is Rick Steves’ Europe on Public Television. In a half hour, Rick takes us on a journey to some of the most interesting places in Europe. These journeys are entertaining, educational and delicious. Rick shares the best of local history, art, culture, and nature. We also get to sample some of the local cuisine and music.
A few years ago I got to hear Rick Steves speak. He was on a tour selling his new book, Travel As A Political Act. Rick’s idea of travel is that it opens us up to new possibilities and new ways of thinking about the world.
My first trip to Europe was in 1977 with a college music group. That trip opened a whole new world to me that I had never dreamed of before. I’ve been traveling ever since.
This Advent I want to invite you on a journey. We will call it- Journey Home for Christmas. Each week I will share with you different places that I have visited and what I learned there. This journey will help you prepare for Christmas.
Every year we take this journey called Advent, four weeks of hoping, waiting, and preparing for Christmas, for God to enter our world and birth something new in our lives. Traveling together makes the journey even more fun. See you in worship.
