There’s an old joke. Minnesota has two seasons: Winter and Road Construction. It’s true. Summer is a time of activity, a time to get projects done. That’s true at our homes, and also true at our church home.
As I write this, tuck pointing is being done on the south side of the church. Soon the steeple roof shingles will be repaired. Estimates are being received for replacing the front steps. The outside door to the kitchen needs to be replaced. The list goes on. We have a beautiful building, but it needs regular maintenance. Thankfully, we have money to pay for these projects through generous gifts from the Ruth Benson, Ione Barclay, and Glen & Anita Anderson estates, and many other generous memorials designated for the upkeep of the building.
We often think of supporting our church home with a portion of our income. The Bible talks about a tithe, percentage giving. Less often do we think of supporting our church home with a portion of our estate. Putting your church home in your Will is a way of caring for its’ future. It makes sure future generations will have a beautiful place to come hear the good news of God’s love in Jesus Christ.
If you’re gone a lot this summer, don’t forget to check out our Website and Facebook page. You can keep up with the activity at church and read or watch sermons. Don’t forget to take Flat Luther with you on your travels and send us your pictures. And consider signing up for our Simply Giving program which makes sure that even when you aren’t here, your gifts will continue to support your church home.
