Because of the resurrection all things are made new! Without a doubt, the power of the resurrection is found in the way in which people’s lives are changed and new beginnings are created. The power of the resurrection is found as death is overcome through the living power of God in Jesus Christ. We are all different people because of that resurrection power!

Easter reminds us of the great “Alleluia” that is sung from the mountaintops to the valleys, from the cities to the farms, from continent to continent, from the celestial galaxies to our own planet. Throughout the universe and beyond, the power of life over death is God’s great “Amen.”

This year, we will celebrate Easter, with shouts and songs of joy. Christ is risen! Christ is risen indeed! But we also need to remember that Easter Sunday is only one day out of the year. The season of Easter actually lasts 7 weeks, through Pentecost Sunday (this year on June 5th.) But even beyond that, we are “Easter people,” which means that the joy of the resurrection should be something that resonates in our hearts, minds and spirits every day of the year!

So why are our churches filled on Easter Sunday and then “go back to normal” on the weekend following Easter Sunday! Are we just there for the big celebration? Are we just in for the momentary high? Are we just there because we’re so trivial and so shallow that we do not see the Easter impact as it relates to our whole life! What is the deal, anyway?

I wish I could give a solid answer to that question. I don’t really have one, except to say that when our relationship to God is confined and defined by a few moments of spiritual celebration. When our relationship to God is segmented so that our acts of praise and thanksgiving are delegated to “I’ll get there when I can.” I wonder if the power of the resurrection is really making the difference it could make in each of our lives!

My prayer this Easter for each one who is reading this article; is that God’s power will work in you that you will respond in joy and thanksgiving every day of the week, every week of the month, every month of the year for the gift of new life and that you will do it with your brothers and sisters in Christ every weekend as we worship at Greenfield. If we are “Easter people,” then we should live as Easter people giving thanks to God every day and every week!
